Universitas Islam Sultan Agung (UNISSULA) was established by Yayasan Badan Wakaf Sultan Agung (YBWSA) on 20 May, 1962. The university was named after the national hero of Sultan Agung, who ruled Mataram Sultanate from 1613 to 1645. Though the faculty of Medicine University of Islam Sultan Agung is one of private universities, it is still one of the most prestigious medical faculties in Central Java. The campus is located in the north of Semarang. It has six leading research areas, including cancer therapy, stem cell, epidemiology, tropical disease, complementary alternative therapy, and aging. Medical education and research activities are supported by very adequate facilities.
Rumah Sakit Islam Sultan Agung (RSISA) was established on 17 August 1971. The hospital is adjacent to the center of industrial growth (LIK & Terboyo Industri Park) and started its service with general polyclinic services. It was inaugurated as a General Hospital on 23 October 1973 by decree from the Minister of Health.
